Lavender

I am a great fan of lavender oil and I use it everywhere I can.

In fact, lavender is so called all-rounder. I have been using it for cooking (meat with lavender), preparing drinks (lavender tea and coffee), cosmetics, creams, fresheners for room and many, many more.

How come lavender is so useful.Well, because there are different kind of the plant.

The one I use is English lavender (Lavandula angustifolia). The species name angustifolia is Latin for "narrow leaf".

The main chemical components of lavender oil are a-pinene, limonene, 1,8-cineole, cis-ocimene, trans-ocimene, 3-octanone, camphor, linalool, linalyl acetate, caryophyllene, terpinen-4-ol and lavendulyl acetate.

English lavender is mild and calming, release tensions and hysteria, helps with insomnia.

Other kind of lavender, spike lavender is relatively harsh and camphoric; could be used against coughs, colds and respiratory ailments.

Apart from that there is famous French lavender and Lavandin, a mix of French and English lavender, used mostly for cosmetics and commercial scents production.
